Brooke’s Fitness Board – April 9th, 2019

Hello everyone! Today I’m going to explain to you why you feel sore after working out.

The correct term for feeling sore is DOMS, which stands for delayed onset muscle soreness. DOMS is also a term for reduced range of motion and muscle strength. A lot of people think the soreness is from lactic acid build up, but this only lasts in your muscles for 1-2 hours after you finish a workout. Weight lifting causes tears in your muscle fibres, which draws inflammation and blood to the area. This is the muscle rebuilding it self, and once it does it gets stronger and can handle more load. DOMS. Can be prevented to an extent. Here are some things you can do to help with the soreness. You could warm up and stretch longer before your workout and after, this will help prepare you muscle for overload. You could also take a Epson salt bath after your workout. Epson salt baths are high in magnesium, this helps improve muscle relaxation and circulation through your body.
