Anita Huberman is an Honorary Captain of the Royal Canadian Navy and currently serves as the Board Chair for Western Community College, located in Surrey’s Health & Technology District.

Anita previously held the role of President & CEO of the Surrey Board of Trade for 18 years, leading one of Canada’s top five Boards of Trade/Chambers of Commerce in one of the country’s largest cities. Over her 31-year tenure with the organization, Anita became a highly visible and influential advocate for Surrey’s business community across all levels of government. She has a proven track record of evolving, reinvigorating, and transforming communities and organizations. Her expertise spans media relations, government relations, international trade, budgeting, operations management, analytical strategy, event management, and team building.

Anita’s contributions to community and business leadership have been recognized with numerous accolades:

  • 2025: ICON Media Group ICON Award
  • 2025: Nominee RBC Canadian Women Entrepreneur Awards
  • 2024: Awarded the King’s Coronation Medal for outstanding community service.
  • 2023: Named one of BC’s Top 500 Influential Business Leaders by the Business in Vancouver Media Group.
  • 2023 & 2024: Recognized among the Top 50 Women Leaders in Vancouver.
  • 2022: Received SFU’s Distinguished Alumni Award.
  • 2021: Honored as one of 15 Outstanding Canadians for her leadership in the private sector during the pandemic.

Anita holds the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal, was a Business in Vancouver Top 40 Under 40 awardee, earned the 2019 Surrey Community Builder of the Year Award, and received the Canada 150 Community Medal.

Appointed by Canada’s Minister of National Defence, Anita is serving her fourth term as Honorary Captain of the Royal Canadian Navy through 2027. Her extensive record of community service includes roles such as:

  1. Co-Chair of Canada’s Disability Business Inclusion Council
  2. Surrey Representative on the Invest Vancouver Management Board, guiding strategic oversight for the Regional Economic Prosperity Service
  3. Member of the SFU President’s Advisory Council and SFU India Advisory Council
  4. Member of the KPU Business Program Advisory Committee
  5. Member of the City of Surrey Innovation and Investment Committee

Anita has also served as a Trustee of Canada’s National Film Board for six years, appointed by the Minister of Canadian Heritage, and held positions on the Forum for International Trade Training (FITT) Board of Directors, the OMNITV Advisory Council, and the IC-Impacts (UBC) Board of Directors.
